After a spectacular visit to Skellig Michael, we had a Guinness and a bowl of Chowder at the Fisherman’s Bar. It was perhaps the finest chowder in the world and I would have gladly married the person responsible for creating such a heavenly dish. The only thing that could have made it better would have been to have another bowl. I can only apologise for the lack of photo of said Chowder…somethings are too sacred to be photographed. Enjoy!!!Gavin Mullaley19:37 15 Sep 23We got the seafood platter and it comes with chips. The portion for one is big enough to feed 2 people and it was super fresh and absolutely delicious. It is absolutely amazing and will remember it for a good while ☺️Z18:22 16 Jul 23John from Port Magee Whiskey recommended this place to my wife and I. He suggested we order the crab sandwiches. They were absolutely outstanding. The service was excellent. The ambiance and atmosphere was wonderful. If you are looking for a local authentic place to experience or just great food this is an absolute must.Rob Cunningham22:22 21 Jun 23Friendly quick service despite large crowd. Drinks are served cold and prompt. Seafood chowder was a bit odd as others have mentioned, not on same level as other restaurants. Still a 5/5 place for the atmosphere here on a Saturday night. Not a music pub, no proper speakers present. For entertainment besides Sports TV you may need to go elsewhere.Manuel Rauch16:00 02 Apr 23We had a great experience at Fisherman’s after seeing the Kerry Cliffs. I have had a lot of fried fish in my life, but the fish here was the best I’ve ever had. It was breaded perfectly and was very thick. A great experience, would highly recommend this place!Spencer Martin09:10 13 Oct 22An intimate bar, with very friendly patrons. Beautiful setting. There is a beer garden outfront right on the harbour woods fairy lights to set a beautiful scene. There was no live music on the night that we were there, but there was plenty of singing and overall a very good humoured place. Trying to local Gin is the most single gin among the bestMark McEntee09:58 28 Aug 22We got the chowder and the seafood platter to share. It was so much good food! All the seafood is very fresh and cooked to perfection. The giant piece of Sole was panko breaded, which was a nice change.nova mclaren12:18 24 Aug 22Excellent quality, fresh food. Only does walk-ins so recommend to get there early to get a table. Only has a small indoor seating area if the weather is not good enough to sit outside.Keith Falkous18:02 08 Aug 22Amazing food - we had the fish platter to share and the chowder starter. Both absolutely delicious. (We didn’t need the chowder as the platter was plenty for two!) Sat outside with the dog in the sheltered area. I don’t normally take photos of my food but this was so delicious! Great service too and I liked that the bar was still traditional and not done up to be trendy.Helen Spiegl07:16 06 Aug 22The best seafood I've had in Ireland. Everything fresh and served quickly. The best service. When I am in the area, I will definitely go there and take my friends 😊💚Joanna Smyk16:20 11 Jul 22We ate here yesterday and can honestly say, that it was the loveliest meal we’ve eaten in a long time. A young teenager served us and he was so efficient and friendly. Our food was delicious and tremendous value. We will certainly return when we visit this area again. Value for money and lovely food served by a young gentleman.siobhan lane12:33 29 Jun 22Very good food ang good value for money. Fresh fish straight off the harbour out the front of the pub/restaurantDavid McGinn18:03 16 Jun 22We had a fantastic lunch there sitting in the sunshine overlooking the water and Valencia Island. Friendly service and great value for what we had chowder and a seafood platter. Highly recommend.Jane O'Sullivan17:31 01 May 22Very tasty fish and chips. Super fresh fish and crunchy chips. Best fish we had so far on the island.Guido von Dahlen12:30 01 Apr 22Fabulous local atmosphere, fantastic service and delicious food! We had the brie starter and then fish & chips all around—loved it all! Great place for a bite & a pint after visiting the Kerry Cliffs.Crista Ashworth18:53 29 Mar 22The best fish and chips I ever had. Friendly staff tasty food and quite large portions of food 😋Iulia Andrei11:51 18 Mar 22We stopped in during the off-season - late February - so it was quiet. A beautiful town, and finding this place open for lunch on a Friday was fantastic. Delicious fresh seafood. Great hospitaity as well. Highly recommend.Andrew Kinnear21:05 01 Mar 22Warm, welcoming, and delicious. If you are staying near or in Portmagee I am jealous because you can eat here multiple times. If you are just driving through then you should stop for a pint and a bite. We shared the seafood platter and it was wonderful all around but the smoked salmon was beyond belief. Such a special experience.Summer Harrison01:20 18 Nov 21Very good fish meals! nice welcome. Nice pub. way to go!The Chtis19:47 31 Oct 21Stayed in Portmagee for 2 nights and ate here both nights. That's very rare - I rarely go back to the same restaurant. This place is excellent. I initially had a turbot fillet and the following night a superb seafood platter. All beautifully cooked and very fresh. Recommended.Robert Penny20:20 29 Sep 21An "old fashioned" pub with restaurant next door which served the BEST food I've had in ages. The calimari was out of this world. We had our dogs with us and were able to sit outside.Patricia O'Connor07:33 28 Sep 21Best spot for seafood in South Kerry. Seafood platter is off the charts good and really good value. If the weather is good the benchs outside are heaven. Staff are amazing. Be warned it gets busy in Summer, but worth the waitMary Clifford14:38 29 Aug 21Possibly the greatest little bar in Ireland. The staff and local patrons are the responsible custodians of a truly traditional and unique corner of this island. The seafood is mighty, the stout is similar and Mags is the matriarch that ever mariner town needs - equal parts a sweetheart and force to be reckoned with.Phil Earley17:41 22 Aug 21We were recommended by Brian on Skellig Coast Adventures. We had fish and chips, my goodness what a meal, absolutely huge portions and so tasty 😋every morsel went down a treat. 100 🌟 from me!Martina O'Farrell10:52 21 Aug 21Excellent seafood platter. The chowder is like a seafood stew. Very tasty. I would have liked some shell fish in the chowder. That's my only criticism. Stunning sunset view overlooking Valentia Island.Karl A Greene06:22 19 Aug 21Had a great meal here last night. The sea food platter is fantastic. Mags and staff were brilliant. We'll be backSheila Lane17:58 18 Aug 21Best fish and chips as well as best pint of guinness, staff were also super friendly already planning our next trip downSophie Pixie Taylor11:32 06 Aug 21Amazing seafood, the prawns were perfect. I'll definitely be returning to Fisherman's Bar & Skellig Restaurant the next time I'm in Portmagee!.... 5 stars!Darren Keague17:26 12 Jun 21Great meal, fresh seafood and lots of choice, not something a lot of places are doing in this post covid summerorla heneghan07:59 12 Jun 21This is a very short drive from Ring of Kerry into Portmagee. Excellent food and service. From there you are able to get onto Skellig Ring. My personal opinion is that this is a beautiful drive. Be warned, this is a very narrow road.John Giambrone09:32 11 Jan 21fantastic food in a fantastic location for Skellig boat tours. Order the fisherman's platter, you won't be disappointed! ⛵👍⚓Concilia Whyte07:50 04 Aug 19Nice and friendly, good selection of food with quick service.Stuart Broome18:13 31 Jul 19My family and I went to the Fisherman's bar after our visit to Skellig Michael. We were quickly seated and served. They had a good selection of beers and cider on tap and lots of great daily specials. My father and I got a seafood platter to share which was unbelievably good. If you love seafood you have to do it ! They give you everything they have seafood related. It was over enough food!!! The smoked salmon was the best smoked salmon I have ever had. They include other seafood such as crab legs, shrimp, stuffed mussels, lobster, fish, chips, and salad . My wife got the cottage pie special and said it was very good! Do yourself a favor and go to the fishermans bar.Michael Robinson08:18 04 Jul 19Fantastic fresh fish. It is really a fisherman' bar. Traditional and only local fish. Portions are huge and the price reflect the quality. Do not expect a restaurant service it is basic but perfectly match with the expectation of a local place with local food. Keep up the great workAntonio Pandolfi20:14 03 Jul 19Great pub.savage pint.and fish amazing. 10 feet from the sea..why would you want or expect anything else from a sea side restaurant.... top Mark's on everything despite previous dumbfounded remarks.. The food was delicious, I highly recommend the seafood platter which comes with a wide array of fish, crab, shrimp, and even squid. Best seafood platter I've had yet!Samantha Spiers21:10 11 May 19Do yourself a favor, drive the Ring of Kerry clockwise. You'll avoid being stuck behind a caravan of buses and will have arrived in Skellige at just the right time to enjoy a lunch at Fisherman's Bar. This quaint eatery serves up some seriously fresh fish; you can't mistake it when you walk in and you get the aroma of your favorite fish monger or market when you walk in through the bar area. We had a shared seafood platter and the smoked salmon. They were out of the cold smoked salmon but the cooks barbecued and smoked some salmon warm for us and it was EXCELLENT. The shared seafood platter had a great selection fresh fried fish, garlic baked crab claws, and perfectly cooked, tender prawns, to name just a few of the items on the platter. This was probably our favorite spot for seafood in our entire trip to Ireland. Friendly people, great environment, amazing food.Rafael Meneses13:30 16 Apr 19Quaint and delicious. Perfection!Marty Walsh14:57 07 Mar 19Had fish (sole) and chips on a cold winter's day. The fish just melted in my mouth. The pub is rustic and warm, with friendly and knowledgeable locals. A very enjoyable experience!Claire13:43 20 Dec 18I truly can't say enough good about this wonderful place...the food was astonishing...the best meals I had, seafood more fresh than I've ever had it. Warm, cozy, free WiFi, friendly and accommodating with my gluten free and dairy free allergies. Thank you!Krista Bailey19:04 26 Nov 18This place is fantastic. All of the food (most of us ordered seafood) was delicious and fresh. Also, we had some food allergies in our group and the chef made sure to prepare each dish according to each person's allergies (and was more than willing to prepare any dish in accordance with any allergy). Would absolutely recommend this place.Adam Hansen19:33 23 Nov 18Great dinner place at a small town off Skellig. When we were there, I think that it was Monk-Fish season. Per the photo, we ordered a Seafood Platter (for 2) and a "Catch of the Day". Both were served with Monk-Fish. The portions were big and were served with Bread, Salad and Chips(aka Fries) and we could not finish it. Another good thing about this Bar & Restaurant is that the seating of Bar is kind of separated from the restaurant. You will not experience the rowdiness from the bar if you are bringing your family to this place just for dinner. 🙂 The MUST-TRY (which I will go back for if I'm back at Portmagee): Crab Claws and it's related dishesWilfred Tay03:04 29 Sep 18We purchased the fish and chips dish and it was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere was comfortable. And although we did not purchase the seafood platter, if I had a chance, I would have. It looked so good!Courtney Bendall20:02 21 Sep 18This little pub and restaurant is amazing! We came in desperate to watch qualifying final of the AFL and the staff went out of their way to make it happen - got it on the TV just for us! We then ordered the catch of the day and it was AMAZING!!! The fish was the freshest and best I’ve ever had. Thanks guys’ highly recommend itA Ry12:35 08 Sep 18Delicious lunch in Portmagee. We found this restaurant on google when we were desperately hungry after touring Skellig Island. The food was really fresh and the service was good. I highly recommend the fish and chips.Jana Marx21:25 06 Sep 18Best seafood chowder and irish coffee on our 10 day trip! Cream was so fresh. Chowder abounded with fish! Perfect after a wet Skellig Michaelpouting. .Dawn Sagorski12:55 05 Sep 18Busy spot. Nice food and friendly staff. Very welcome after a day on the Skelligs. Just watch for the times they are Serving, we were lucky to get in before they stopped serving during the middle of the day.David Hunts18:46 31 Aug 18We stopped here on a Friday night for dinner while passing through Portmagee. Food was very good! There are picnic tables outside by the water and you can order food and drinks there, too. Wait staff was very friendly. Prices were average: dinner and drinks about €60. Check out the Kerry Cliffs while you're in the area.Lisa B10:34 12 Aug 18Lift a glass of Guinness after returning from the amazing Skellig Michael tours and enjoy some marvelous food served up fresh and delicious. May I suggest the chowder, it is definitely a winner!G Warren05:13 26 Jul 18Don't confuse this with a simple pub meal. Although there is an adjoining bar, this is probably more a seafood restaurant than a place for pub meals. The service was attentive and efficient. As befitting a restaurant the waiter was familiar with the dishes and style. Not a huge menu, but the seafood is all local catch.Melvyn Kuan19:59 07 Jun 18Wow! Great food, amazing beer!!! We had a delicious dinner there with seafood platter and a fish chowder. The waiter was also veeeery friendly!!! We loved it!! Price is also good, affordable! XxLuana Lima19:21 30 Mar 18The sea food chowder was amazing. It was a lovely warm place and the owner and staff were so good. They let our dog come and lie on the ground with us. The sea food is amazing and so fresh. We will definitely be going back the next time on this area.John Yoder10:44 28 Mar 18The best fish and chips I've ever had! My boyfriend and I stumbled on the Fisherman's Bar during our Ring of Kerry drive. The fish was just amazing. In the 2 weeks we spent in Ireland and Scotland, it was our favorite fish and chips that we had. We also tasted a local cider which was excellent. Highly recommend!Jill Burke18:04 21 Mar 18Great, fresh seafood. Perfect pint of Guinness. Scenic outside eating area. Overall experience was so good that we came back for dinner again two days later. Walked down the hill for a Guinness every evening. Perfect pub.Joey Garcia12:13 19 Feb 18‹›
